Bang Pa-In Royal Palace Ayutthaya

Ayutthaya Full day & Bang Pa In (Summer Palace)
You will explore one of the most famous historical places in Thailand, Ayutthaya the former capital city of Siam (Thailand). Visiting ancient temples of Ayutthaya and Bang Pa In, summer palace
Less than an hours drive North of Bangkok and just a few kilometers from Ayutthaya lies the Bang Pa-In Summer Palace.
The original Palace was built by King Prasat Thong of Ayutthaya in the first half of the 17th century. When Ayutthaya was invaded and destroyed by the Burmese in 1767, Bang Pa-In Palace was left abandoned for almost a century.
During the reign of King Mongkut (Rama IV) in the 1850's some of the Palace was rebuilt. Most of the buildings of Bang Pa-In Palace today date from the late 19th century. The Palace is still used by the Royal Family.
Versailles like atmosphere
A number of impressive buildings can be found in the Palace complex, built in very different architectural styles, some in classical Thai, some Chinese and some European design. The large landscaped grounds are very well maintained, the neo classical style European buildings give Bang Pa-In Summer Palace a little of a Versailles like atmosphere. A full day can easily be spent in this picturesque and very photogenic place.
Bang Pa-In Palace isn't what you might expect from a Thai royal residence. Some of the European-influenced architecture wouldn't look out of place at a stately home in France or Germany. And the sight of tourists driving golf buggies over a bridge lined with Renaissance-style statues may make you do a double-take. But the golf buggies provide a practical and modern solution that allows visitors to explore the expansive grounds in comfort. This may be a royal palace with rules of etiquette, but it retains a relaxed atmosphere and is a pleasure to visit. Home to an elegant collection of buildings with a mix of European and Thai architecture styles, Bang Pa-In Palace reflects the personality of the man who oversaw much of the construction, King Chulalongkorn.
