King Mongkut Rama IV traveled by the Royal Barge Akarat Woradet to prove the calculation of the location and time of the total solar eclipse that was clearly and correctly calculated 2 years in advance that the total solar eclipse would occur on Tuesday, the 1st day of the waxing moon of the 10th month of the Year of the Horse, Chula Sakarat 1230, corresponding to August 18, 1868
To commemorate His Majesty and that important historical day
On May 16, 1989, the Cabinet resolved in principle to proceed with the King Mongkut Science Park project at Wah Kor and on May 3, 1990, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej bestowed the name of this place as "King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang Science Park at Whako, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province" was announced by the Ministry of Education as an educational institution on June 16, 1993. It is currently under the Office of the Non-Formal and Informal Education Promotion to honor King Mongkut.
